Recent Trials

Wilkie Cheong and John Denove represented a client who was being sued for intentional interference with contractual relations. The plaintiffs alleged the actions of the defendant interfered with their contract to merge two corporations. The plaintiffs alleged that their economic damage was 14 million dollars. Mr. Cheong and Mr. Denove were successful in proving that the defendant did nothing wrong and that the plaintiffs were entitled to no damages. John Denove represented a young lady who was injured in a motor vehicle collision.   The case was tried in Ventura.  He was able to prove that the collision injured her cervical spine requiring trigger point injections and epidural steroid injections.  The jury awarded her damages for her past medical expenses, for her future cervical surgery, her loss of earnings and her pain and suffering. Click here to see some of the exhibits that were used during the trial. 
 

Recent Arbitrations

William Karns recently tried and won a seven day arbitration in a case involving the sale of a residential property.  He was able to show that the Defendants knew about a number of defects with the property that were not disclosed to the Plaintiff.  The case involved complex issues in the areas of construction and appraising.  Click here if you would like to see some of the Exhibits Mr. Karns used during the arbitration.

Recent Settlements

William Karns and John Denove settled a medical malpractice case against Los Angeles County/Harbor UCLA Hospital.  The case involved a twelve year old child who developed bleeding in her brain following a cheerleading accident.  The bleeding, known as a subdural hematoma, appeared to resolve, but eventually expanded causing her brain to herniate.  She was left with severe cognitive and motor deficits.  The Defendant disputed liability, but due to overwhelming evidence obtained by Mr. Karns during discovery, the County decided to settle the day before trial.

Italian American Lawyers Association
Wilkie Cheong, Alicia Curran, Mary Bennett, Steve Vartazarian, William Karns and John Denove attended the Italian American Lawyers dinner where Mr. Denove was sworn in as president of the association.

Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles
John Denove presented a lecture to the new lawyers group of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles on the topic of "How to Get Documentary Evidence Admitted at Trial".
 
Cowboy Lawyers Association
Mary Bennett, Wilkie Cheong, John Rowell and John Denove attended the Cowboy Lawyers Association's annual dinner dance. Miss Bennett was sworn in as the secretary of the association. New Board Appointments

Bill Karns was appointed to the CAALA Board of Governors.
 

Departures
The firm is sad to lose Sarah Kay, a legal secretary. Her loss is Mattel's gain. She has obtained the position in the design and invention department.

Awards
Carmen Trutanich, the City Attorney for Los Angeles, presented John Denove a certificate on behalf of the City Attorney's office
for his election as president of the
Italian American Lawyers Association.

LawDragon has again selected John Denove as one of the 500 Leading Plaintiffs' Lawyers in America.

The Consumer Attorneys of California awarded John Denove with its Presidential Award of Merit for "Doing battle above and beyond the call of duty and in recognition of extraordinary dedication to Consumer Attorneys of California  and those we represent."
